Dr. Jack W. Jones
A noted concert organist and native of Daytona Beach, Dr. Jack W. Jones holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Stetson University, Deland, FL, a Master of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary, New York, NY, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School, New York, NY. His organ professors included Paul Jenkins, Alec Wyton, Anthony Newman, and Virgil Fox; and his composition professors included Searle Wright, Joseph Goodman, Vincent Persichetti, Roger Sessions, and Vladimir Ussachevsky. Former positions include University Organist and Choir Director at Mercer University, Macon, GA; Associate Organist/Chorimaster of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, New York, NY; and Post Chapel Organist and Director of Musical Activities at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. From 1976 to 1978, Dr. Jones served as Organist of The First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach and was on the faculty of Palm Beach Atlantic University. He also served as Organist of The First Baptist Church of Van Nuys, CA and Chairman of the Organ Department at Southern California Conservatory of Music from 1978 to 1979. In 1979, he returned to West Palm Beach to enter full-time concert work and has served as Organist/Director of Music at The Royal Poinciana Chapel since 1989. Additional church and teaching positions include First Baptist, Columbus, GA; First Baptist, Daytona Beach, FL; and First United Methodist, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Community College, Lake Worth, FL, and Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL. In addition to his church and teaching positions, Dr. Jones has used his musical talents as Chorusmaster at Palm Beach Opera, Artistic Director of The Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Society, and Music Director for Stage Company, Burt Reynolds Dinner Theatre, Repertory Theatre, Sculpture Theatre, and Burt Reynolds Institute for Theatre Training. He also founded and directed Teen Musical Theatre. A sensitive and supportive accompanist, Dr. Jones is in demand for many local and international singers such as Malcolm Arnold, Victoria Atwater, Joseph Evans, Adria Firestone, Demetra George, Susanne Ishee, Marilyn and Lloyd Mims, Dean Peterson, Bruce Reed, and Sir John van Kesteren. Recordings by Dr. Jones include Organist for “Of Time and Eternity,” a cantata by Mary Caldwell (Broadman), “Epitaph for This World and Time” (Composers Records, Inc.), “Divine Hair” (RCA), and a solo organ album entitled “Jack Jones in Concert” (Broadman). He has published many compositions and has accompanied numerous vocal recordings. This past October, Dr. Jones was featured in an organ concert at Westminster Abbey in London, England as the only American organist included in their organ recital series. He is the immediate past Dean of the American Guild of Organists, Palm Beach Chapter. |
